Book a Private Writing Class

As well as five years’ experience giving author talks at schools, libraries, and literary festivals, I have five years’ experience as a private teacher of English Literature, creative writing, and history. I work with high school students ranging from lower secondary to the HSC and IB, and across a range of ability levels.

It has been my great joy to work alongside students throughout their entire high school experience, yet also to run courses focussed on individual texts or tasks for students seeking short term guidance.

In each tutorial, my aim is to enrich the understanding of texts, to inspire creativity, and to hone critical thinking and essay writing skills. In my experience the greatest joy for students emerges from a close reading of texts and the opportunity for historical and cultural discussions beyond the limitations of a busy classroom. Students frequently will ask questions that they feel reluctant to ask their teacher. More often than not, these are fundamental questions that help unlock new confidence in a student’s abilities as a reader and writer.
